Most system administration courses teach individual technologies in isolation. Students memorize commands, pass exams, then face production environments where nothing behaves like the textbook described.

We started mesa-hawk after repeatedly hiring administrators who knew theory but struggled with judgment. They could configure a service but not diagnose why performance degraded. They understood security concepts but missed how attackers actually exploit systems.

Our curriculum focuses on operational thinking: how experienced administrators analyze problems, make tradeoffs, and build systems that remain manageable as they scale. We teach not just what commands to run, but when to run them and why alternatives might be better.
